Revitalized Daniil Medvedev Secures Maiden Trophy in Nearly 30 Months

19 of the Russian's 21 titles have been achieved on hard courts

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over opponent Moutet in the competition final.

Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has endured a difficult season, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

The player's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serve in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with former coach his previous coach.

Now working with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily improved in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested competitive triumph over challenger Moutet.

This represents his first championship following the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface from March of the previous year.

Success also signifies Medvedev has achieved twenty-one championships at 21 distinct competitions.

"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my both daughters simultaneously, so to secure a trophy is really nice," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had failed in his last six championship matches, including in that event in the past months.

His retrieving play style and regular outbursts on the playing surface had led commentators to question if his ability to perform at the highest level was concluded.

Yet the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and play positively, supported by an improved serve.

He fought back from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, taking four of the final five games to go ahead.

The pair traded breaks in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his initial ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to push for a final set.

He rescued 4 early-game chances in a competitive final set before Medvedev won the break to that score to secure the win.

Suitably, the winner clinched victory with a point at the net, with his opponent incapable to handle a return after a lengthy match.
